Pressure washing damage

Sometimes the "cheapest" price can be the most expensive in the long run!
In 12 years of owning and operating Neilson Cleaning, I have been involved in my educational groups and basic social media groups. When I talk to others in the same industry and listen to their process of cleaning, sometimes I cringe.
They tell me how they just use high pressure to blast away the algae,
This method is a great way to strip paint, or leave marks on the surface from high pressure.  We dont like this method.☹️
Some say they use bleach (straight bleach) to kill the algae.  This will definitely kill the algae , but bleach is also a corrosive and it will fade away the paint if used too strong.
There is no cheap or simple fix for the damage .
You will be refinishing the surface damaged, either repairs or replacement. Repainting.
If you paint the exterior then you've got another surface that you'll have to maintain throughout the years which will add maintenance cost. In short, this "cheap" job will end up costing THOUSANDS to repair the damage caused by an inexperienced cleaner.
Seeing damage like this really makes me angry! Pressure washing is not a game.... it is a skilled trade using extremely powerful tools.  When done improperly it can cost property owners thousands of dollars in damage and lost revenue. Always hire a professional, ask for references, verify their insurance.

When the Color Fades: Why Your House Paint Can't Escape Oxidation

Ah, the fresh coat of paint, bringing your home back to life with vibrant hues. But what happens when those vibrant colors start to dull, leaving a chalky, faded shadow of their former selves? The culprit, my friend, is a phenomenon called oxidation.

Think of oxidation as a slow-burning enemy, lurking in the sunlight and harsh weather. Here's how it steals the life from your paint:

The Sun's Searing Rays: The ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun acts like a relentless bully, breaking down the polymers in your paint. These polymers hold the pigments tight, giving your house its colorful charm. But under constant UV bombardment, they start to weaken and crumble, releasing the pigments and leaving your paint vulnerable.

Weather Woes: Wind, rain, and even humidity work hand-in-hand with the sun. Wind carries dust and grime, which act like tiny sandpaper, further degrading the paint film. Rain soaks and weakens the already fragile polymers, while humidity promotes the growth of mold and mildew, adding another layer of discoloration.

The Color Conundrum: Different pigments react differently to oxidation. Darker colors, especially yellows and reds, tend to fade faster under UV light. Lighter shades, while more resistant, eventually succumb to the relentless wear and tear.

What You Can Do: Don't despair! You can fight back against oxidation:

  • Choose High-Quality Paint: Invest in paints with high levels of UV protection and durable resins. They'll hold their color longer. Neilson Cleaning and painting will be there to help  you choose the right type of paint and colors.
  • Regular Maintenance: Routine cleaning and occasional touch-ups (by Neilson cleaning of course 😃) can remove dirt and grime before they break down the paint.
  • Strategic Shade Selection: Consider the sun exposure of your house when choosing colors. For sunny sides, opt for cooler tones like blues and greens, which are more resistant to fading.

Remember, oxidation is a natural process, but with the right knowledge and maintenance, you can keep your house looking its vibrant best for years to come. So next time you admire your colorful abode, remember the silent battle against oxidation happening outside. And perhaps, give your paint a grateful pat - it's standing strong against the sun's fury, bringing a little bit of joy to your neighborhood.

Why Choose Pressure Washing in 2024?

The benefits of pressure washing go far beyond aesthetics. Here are just a few reasons why it's a smart choice for your home in 2024:

  • Deep Cleaning Power: Pressure washing and soft washing removes dirt, grime, algae, and mold that traditional cleaning methods simply can't reach. This not only improves the look of your home but also helps protect your exterior surfaces from damage.
  • Increased Safety: Slippery algae and mold can be a safety hazard, especially on walkways and steps. Pressure washing removes these hazards, creating a safer environment for you and your family.
  • Boosted Curb Appeal: A clean and well-maintained home is more attractive to potential buyers and can even increase your home's value.

Pressure washing wood

Yesterday we pressured washed a wooden boat and wooden patio furniture in Deltona Florida. Our goal was to clean off as much of the grime as possible so it can be re-stained.

The surface of wood is very porous and needs to be cleaned correctly. Like everything else there is a method. Spraying BLEACH on wood is not recommended. The initial appearance of bleach will give you the WOW effect , however  the wood will immediately get fuzzy upon pressure washing and now that the wood has consumed the bleach it is now inside doing damage, breaking down the fibers in the wood.

This is where customers need to be careful, So many times a person will pressure wash a surface and it looks great then after a few days or even once it dries ( the contractor is paid and gone) The damage starts to show. Fuzzy bleached out wood, Pressure washing cuts in the woods from using the wrong tip or high pressure. The possibilities of describing damage are endless.

When you need a reliable , Professionally trained pressure washer and roof cleaner give us at Neilson Cleaning a call. We service all of Central Florida.
Our number is  386-956-3406. Feel free to call or text at this number or you can visit us at www.neilsoncleaning.com

We thank you

Pressure washing is my Niche

Pressure washing and roof cleaning are specialty's for me. I am not a part time washer. If I was ,my passion would not be here.

There is a certain satisfaction I get from watching the  dirt, algae, and grime just wash away. I do every job with my customer in mind.
I always imagine they are watching me work and that ensures that  when a buyer hires me for pressure washing, roof cleaning, or concrete cleaning they are getting the best that I have.

How could I do any less? My Google and other internet reviews speak volumes as to the type of person and worker my company has become.

How do I prepare for a house wash?

Well, today is the day you get your house professionally pressure washed. Preparation for this task is minimal but you want to keep a few things in mind. First and foremost Please move your car out of the driveway or from in front of the house. A good professional pressure washing company will have permanently mounted equipment. These will usually be on a trailer or flat bed truck. Neilson cleaning has an 18 foot trailer we pull which is quite large and does not squeeze in tight spots.

Another thing would be to move any furniture and or wall hangings While Neilson Cleaning does not use high pressure to clean, even a small amount is enough to knock or blow things on the floor causing damage.

Window screens should be taken out if desired in order for the dirt to be washed away and not sit behind the screen. When we , here at Neilson Cleaning pressure wash a house, We will ask our customer to place the screen in an area off to the side and we will wash them separately.

Basically, please keep in mind when a pressure washer can work smoothly without having to stop and untangle their hoses they can concentrate on the wash.

If you would like to discuss this blog further please feel free to browse our web site and call or email us.
